Sailing into spring with the Lagoon Escapades across Europe!

Great sailing, meeting people, sharing experiences and good spirits… these are just some of the magic ingredients that make Lagoon Escapades so successful. More specifically, the events for LAGOON owners were held this spring in Croatia, France and Portugal.

For the fourth year running, there was a huge turnout of Lagoon owners in Croatia for the Adriatic Lagoon Regatta, organised by our dealer, Nautika Centar Nava. The 13 Lagoon catamarans raced against each other in a atmosphere of joy and good humour, with Mala, the Lagoon 570, first across the finish line. The weekend was rounded off with a visit to the picturesque town of Hvar.

A month later and it was the turn of our Portuguese dealer, Sea Way, to play host to the Lagoon owners. With the wind blowing at 8 to 12 knots, the participants sailed 16 nautical miles from Belém to Cabo Ruivo. The day ended merrily with a party on the theme of Spring at the Orient Museum restaurant.

The last (but by no means least) Escapade of the season was the Atlantic Escapade. For this second Atlantic Escapade, fifteen Lagoon owners had accepted the invitation from the very popular Louis-Jean Bourdel (LAGOON dealer in La Rochelle). Setting off from the magnificent port of La Rochelle, the catamarans headed out for the Île d’Aix before sailing on to the historical town of Rochefort on the Charente River. The participants had the immense pleasure of dining at the hotel in the famous Corderie Royale (the royal ropemakers' building), all in a very warm-hearted atmosphere!

In view of the ever-growing success of the Escapades, and the resulting logistical issues, we felt it essential to take certain measures to preserve the "Lagoon spirit" of the Lagoon Escapades. Registering to take part in the Escapades will therefore now be reserved for members of the Club Lagoon.

For more details about the Escapades, see our news section: Lagoon Escapades in the spring!

A Lagoon owners meeting in the Balearics Islands to celebrate the Lagoon's 30th anniversary!

To mark its 30th anniversary, Lagoon invited its customers to a grand Lagoon Escapade in the Balearic Islands, from 23 to 25 May, in the Mallorca island. A very international destination, designed to attract around twenty Lagoons from all over the world, for two days of sailing and festivities between El Arenal and Cabrera nature reserve.

This is the 4th Lagoon Escapade organized by the yard after Marseille, Porquerolles and the Ile d’Aix, near La Rochelle. And everyone agreed that this Escapade had been huge fun, and so much the better, since the idea is to create pleasure for the people that own our boats, and to share that pleasure!

A great moment printed by the Lagoon Attitude, as we like!

More information about the event in the attached press release.

6000 Nautical miles onboard a Lagoon 400 between Barcares (FRA) and Miami (USA) - 2013/07

Few years ago I was still calling cruising catamarans the “madrier flottant’’ (literally the floating cradle)… Being a pure monohull racer since I was born, the concept of high comfort was something unknown and these ‘’bulky boats’’ were not really attracting me in the past.

When I became a Beneteau and Lagoon dealer 3 years ago, I had a serious discussion one day with my 10 years old daughter :‘’Dad, I don’t get you, you are representing the 2 brands but we always go sailing on your racing boat, they heel, I get wet and sick and we can’t do anything while sailing’’.

I ended up buying with some friends one of my inventory boats, a Lagoon 400, enjoyed it a lot in California waters with the kids and friends, having our traditional ‘’sailing to Catalina’’ every 3 months. Then the project of NAOS 400 came. The idea of crossing the Atlantic grew-up when my dad retired. After a lot of thoughts on which boat to take, and talking with the Lagoon team about products and schedule, we decided to take the new Lagoon 400S2, number 1 (I knew already the 400 was a great sailing boat) for the project. The boat had a busy planning: being the ‘’Premiere’’ in European boat shows, register on the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers), cross the Atlantic, the Caribbean and Bahamas island and have her on the show in Miami.

That was a giant project to organize with crew, provisioning, and the cruising equipment. Actually apart one experienced crew who was always on board with me for long passages, the big portion of my crew was novices or low experienced sailors or even power boaters (one ended to buy a Lagoon 450). They all found the catamaran being their boat: stability, comfort, space, easy-sailing were a real discovery for them. What I really love on these boats is to go inside, enjoy this almost 360° view, and needless to talk about the hot shower every day when you are at sea (I am used to sea shower with a bucket when we are racing)! During the 3000 miles of the crossing, the foul weather gears stayed in the cabinets and I was bare feet all the time.

A few of the best memories in the last 4 months with NAOS 400:
- celebrating my dad’s 65th birthday in 30 knots of wind in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean with 15feet of seas. We installed the complete cockpit enclosure and we had the cake (cooked in the oven) for dessert after eating a duck confit,
- the arrival in San Lucia after 16 and half days at sea (we finished 3rd at the ARC in the multihull fleet and 1st boat not using engine for propulsion),
- the 1254 miles that we did in 6 days (8,70 knots average!) during the Atlantic crossing with some surfs between 17 and 20 knots,
- the first Mahi-Mahi we caught and the fresh Tuna sashimi for dinner in the middle of the Ocean,
- entering in Summer Point marina between the reefs in 6 feet of waters after having the worst sailing conditions I ever had with the boat (35-40 knots and bad crossing seas between Turks and Caicos and Rum Cay Islands),
- drinking piñacoladas on a sunset in the Exumas with my buddies while listening Bob Marley and watching the sharks attracted by our underwater lighting.

Now NAOS 400 will have new adventures with her new captain who plans to go around the world (his route: Bahamas – Caribbean – Panama – Polynesia – Australia for the next 2 years). And I will wait for my new Lagoon 39 to spend good times on board with my family and friends.

Adriatic Lagoon Regatta, Split, April 28 to May 1, 2012

About one hundred Lagoon and catamarans lovers (owners, guests, journalists and photographers) gathered during 3 days on the marvelous sailing grounds around the islands facing Split (Dalmatian coast, Solta island and Hvar islands archipelago) onboard 11 Lagoon catamarans. A good part of the Lagoon range was there (Lagoons 400, 440, 450, 500, 570 and 620) and the crews competed on 3 different courses organised by the Yacht Club Lagoon Split in partnership with Nautika Center Nava, the Croatian Lagoon distributor.

The event met with a great success with a true Lagoon Escapade atmosphere during 3 days:
- Superb sailing grounds (although the wind was a bit weak)
- Great evenings with dinners organised in magnificent restaurants
- Unforgettable moments of conviviality
As if to confirm the above, all crews have already registered for next year's edition!

1st Lagoon Rendezvous in Victoria, British Columbia (Canada) - 2012/07

The first Lagoon  Escapade  in British Columbia was organized by Fraser Yachts, the Lagoon dealer for B.C., from July 22 to 24.
6 Canadian and American boats were met in beautiful Victoria harbor marina on Friday afternoon by the Fraser Yachts staff and Lana Lohe, sales and marketing coordinator for Lagoon America. Everyone then met on the « Host Lagoon 400 » for socializing and getting to know each other, with some appetizers and of course… « Blue Lagoon » drinks !

On Saturday morning, all participants gathered at the host boat to go to breakfast together (in turquoise tee shirts) at a very nice bistro on the water.
Everyone met at the boats at 1pm to cast off for the Lagoon sail and photo shoot, including two Lagoon 450 owners who had not received their boats yet.

Even though their was very little wind, a friend of Scott Macdonald’s (from Fraser Yachts) kindly took a participant for a fly over the fleet in his sea plane to take some pictures.

Several boats turned up their music and their was dancing and singing on all Lagoons on the way back to beautiful Victoria...

Back in the marina, it was prizegiving time for all, with Gill jackets, EPIRBs, deck chairs tee shirts and sweat shirts…

At 7pm everyone walked to the restaurant where a reservation had been made for a VERY nice dinner.  Jean-Louis Chaput, deputy General Manager of CNB-Lagoon, had come all the way from France to charter a Lagoon 400 and joined the dinner with his wife and some friends.

After dinner, the Utschneider family from Seattle hosted a memorable party for all participants onboard Sophie, their Lagoon 500.

Sunday morning a continental breakfast was delivered to the docks for a farewell to all Lagoon friends.

In fact, 2 boats were planning to sail together after meeting each other at the rendezvous and finding that they were both on a 2 week holiday.

2nd Mediterranean Lagoon Escapade in Porquerolles - 2011/06

A 21 Lagoon catamarans fleet met in Porquerolles from the17th through the 19th of June for the pleasure of sailing, discovering or enjoying again the wild beauty of the « Iles d’Or », and above all for the simple pleasure of sharing some good times.
This 2nd edition of the Lagoon Escapade was organized in partnership with Raymarine and SGB Finance.

On Friday night, all crews met at the Domaine de Perzinsky for a cocktail/dining party. On Saturday, a beautiful weather allowed all participants to sail around Porquerolles going west, around the Petit and the Grand Langoustiers, then past the magnificent Petit and Grand Sarranier rocks. On Sunday, 40 knots + wind gusts cut off any sailing desire: instead, bicycle rides or strolls around the island became quite popular, but not as much as the pleasure of visiting from one Lagoon to another, which allowed to better know each other, spend some good time and create new ties of friendship.

See you next year at the latest !

The first Lagoon cup in Sydney (November 2009)

Australian Lagoon owners met this past Nov. 20 on the starting line of the first Lagoon cup in Australia, organized by VICSAIL , the Lagoon distributor in Sydney.

2 courses were organized in one day on magnificent Sydney Bay under ideal conditions: 12 to 15 knots in the morning, 20 to 25 knots in the afternoon, under a beautiful sunshine and with a 35° C. temperature!

A simple but busy programme:
- The boats departed from the famous Cruising Yacht Club of Australia at 10:30 after a Skippers briefing and breakfast at the club
- The morning race was won by the Lagoon 380 "Team Vicsail", with many VIP guests onboard
- Around mid day all boats anchored in a bay to enjoy a Vicsail offered lunch
- In the afternoon, "Talon", a Lagoon 410 won the second race and was presented a purchase coupon for $500 by Rivers Quay ( a Sydney based company specialized in deck fittings and boats maintenance)
- And of course, the day ended around the unmissable australian "barbie", along with a show by Brazilian dancers who had been invited for the event.

Some comments from participants: "a fantastic day...I will be back next year with some friends"..."one of the most beautiful days in my life...I'll be back next year - if the brazilian dancers are here as well!"

Lagoon distributors organized owners meetings are usually successfull, but it seems that the Lagoon cup in Sydney has set a new standard...2010 can't get here soon enough!
